An economist with over 25 years experience as a Customs Specialist and Customs and Trade Advisor in Major Projects division of Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA), formerly Customs and Excise, Sylvia is also a member of the executive, past President and Treasurer of the Bel-Air Park Community Association.

Since retirement, Sylvia has been acting as a Consultant on Trade and Organizational Issues. Sylvia is also a participant in the development of the City of Ottawa's Poverty Reduction Strategy.
