Hospice Appoints Executive Director Welcome Karen Moore Karen Moore

Picton, Ontario June 20, 2017:   The Board of Directors of Hospice Prince Edward (HPE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Moore as the Hospice’s Executive Director effective immediately.

“We are excited about Karen’s extensive experience as an educator, trainer and end of life care specialist. She brings a deep sense of commitment to our County’s palliative care work.” said Peter Matthewman, President of Hospice Prince Edward.

The choice was made after a detailed selection process that drew on the expertise of 24 community stakeholders, as well as the Hospice’s own staff and valuable volunteers. Everyone on the selection committee was given the opportunity to meet with the finalists for the position. The stakeholders were then asked to rank the finalists based on criteria that were deemed essential for the success of Hospice Prince Edward.

“Our palliative outreach, three bed residential hospice and grief and bereavement programs are so important for Prince Edward County’s families. We believe Karen’s ability to communicate with families and work with community stakeholders will be critical as Hospice Prince Edward moves forward into its next stages of development.” said Matthewman.

Karen’s previous role as a Hospice Volunteers and Education Coordinator has enabled her to develop invaluable Palliative Care skills. She will be working with an accomplished and professional team at Hospice Prince Edward including Judy Fraser, Esther Howard, and Jane Moon, as well as over 50 volunteers.

The Board would also like to extend its sincere appreciation to Val MacDonald CPA for acting as the Interim Executive Director over the past several months. “Not only did Val do a superb job but she has agreed to be available in the future to help Karen and the Board as needed.” said Matthewman.

Hospice Prince Edward provides palliative visiting programs, grief and bereavement support and a three-bed residential hospice located in Picton.
