Supporting the journey of living with dying
Hospice Prince Edward provides physical, psychological, social, spiritual and practical support to people living with life-limiting illness and to their loved ones and caregivers.
Hospice Prince Edward is a non-profit, non-denominational charitable organization with a two-fold purpose:
- To assist individuals, their families and caregivers facing life-limiting or terminal illness
- To help bereaved people of all ages cope with the death of a loved one and to rediscover life
Hospice Prince Edward is a community resource for palliative care and bereavement support, serving all of Prince Edward County.
A terminal illness is not just a physical diagnosis. The hospice philosophy involves a commitment to address the physical, emotional, spiritual and information needs of people with a terminal or life-threatening illness.
It also involves a commitment to care for family and close friends during the progress of an illness and in time of bereavement. We believe that caregiving is a matter of mutual support. Everyone providing care in a palliative or bereavement situation needs to be able to receive as well as to give support.
We believe that, wherever possible, individuals should have the ability to choose to die where they want to die.
How We Are Funded
Over half of Hospice Prince Edward's funding comes from its own special fundraising events and activities as well as from memorial or direct donations. The balance of our funding is from the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care through the SE Local Health Integration Network. In the past our funding has been supplemented by the Trillium Foundation and United Way.
All Hospice services are free of charge to the client and their families.
